38: Why you need to reverse-engineer

Build a thing from scratch and you know how it’s made because you did it yourself. This is your achievement. Congratulations. Time to pat yourself on your shoulder. Twice. Left and right.

But wait. You only did half of the job.

If you really want to close the circle, you will disassemble the assembled and destroy what you just built. When you built it yourself it should be fairly easy. Or not? Say the ABC out loud. Easy. Say the ABC and reverse it starting from Z going to A. Z, Y, X, … I even struggle only writing the letters down. Not so easy, right?

Another example: As 10-year old I lernt to play soccer with both feet, naturally being a right-foot kicker. Because I wanted to be a both-feet-kicker I practiced with my neighbor. It was a great exercise, and I can still kick very well with my left foot. Trying that these days with my left arm (me naturally being a right-arm person) is a totally different story. Playing squash with my left arm looks so super ridiculous and helpless. “Closing the circle” by being a left- and right-arm-person is a challenge. And I’m missing actual practice right now. But that’s another story.

What reverse-engineering teaches you is that if you can do it one way, can you also do it the opposite. You should at least try it. That’s when you have the” full circle” mindset, I’m calling it like that because it sounds good and meaningful.

The take-away from today: Learn things fully, not all at once, but have the desire to be a whole learner, not a part-learner. Yes, you learn piece by piece, like with a pizza, but you don’t stop at piece 7 out of 8 – like you wouldn’t stop eating the pizza if only one slice was left, right? That having said, I got hungry. I’m going for lunch🍕.

37: Why you’re hungry

You’re hungry because your stomach feels empty. You’re hungry because you didn’t eat well. And you’re hungry because your actions made you forget that hunger is even an option. That’s when you reached your state of flow in which you overcome problems that challenge you and are aligned with your skill level, meaning you are able to solve the problems though it’s not easy.

The real reason why you’re hungry is because you need to be hungry. A full stomach doesn’t like to study (“Ein voller Bauch studiert nicht gern.”) is what a German saying goes like. This is true for your personal and business success as well.

Guess what?

I’m hearing voices out of my stomach right now. I should be eating and get some food. I will. Eventually. But for now I’m finishing this piece because it’s part of my success story. Success that has already come. In my head. Reality is usually slower than what I envision. I’m sure you can relate. Nothing comes fast. You always need to be patient, and work hard. Success and wealth will follow.

So, I’m hungry right now. Literally and figuratively. As I said, I will eat to have healthy nutrition. I won’t eat to become comfortable. That’s the “hungry” mode I’m referring to in this text. When you’re hungry you need to get food. When your business is starving you need to feed it. When your project is getting weak, you need to give it energy. Healthy food, healthy input, clever investment with a good a return. That gives it back the power. So much that it will continue running well. Not too much so it doesn’t become saturated, fat or immobile.

The take-away from today: Establish the balance in which you eat healthy and stay hungry for more. Hunger is a lack of something, it’s something you have less of. This less will drive you more, drive you to go for more. In short: Less is more. In this specific context. Don’t starve and die. Be hungry having less to live and achieve more.

36: The only question to ask

Doing something for yourself is fine, important and sane. It’s crucial to have me-time, where you awake 0therwise sleeping curiosity and playfulness you once enjoyed as a child. It is wonderful to rejoice the celebration of one’s behavior, a behavior that is 100% compatible to how you want to behave.

Dancing in front of the mirror listening to your favorite song and showing your tongue and making other grimaces. No problem. Drawing trees from your balcony because the view is simply fantastic. Go for fit. Walking naked around your apartment because nobody sees you. Totally fine. Losing time on the playground while you maybe enjoy the space more than your child. Voilà.

Stop. Playtime is over. You artistic solo expression had its time. Now you think how to apply your skills to serve the world and make you happy at the same time. Playful and artistic elements explicitly allowed.

From today on “How can I serve the world best?” is the first question to ask yourself after you wake up – every day. It guarantees that what you do is according to how you can be best used – not misused but being a servant, putting yourself into a full and pure service position.

The last question before you go to bed is “How did I serve the world best today?“. It guarantees that you are happy with the day because you made progress yourself, helped other people and enjoyed it.

If you don’t enjoy it, don’t know how to serve people or don’t make progress, join a journey of self-discovery. I’ll be accompanying you together with excellent other fellow travelers in a supportive community, helping each other grow as high and much as you want. You set yourself the limit and decide who has a say in your growth.

How did you serve the world best?

Don’t forget to ask, and start tonight. Thanks Benny Franklin!

The take-away from today: There’s a good reason that mantras exist. They’re easy to remember and repeat. As much as going to the toilet does reciting them become a part of your everyday life. How to serve the world best today is the only question you need to ask, the foundation out of which all your actions are based. Yes, there will be days when you’re caught in bureaucracy, but it takes just a little change in perspective to also see these interactions as service opportunities. Try it, and be playful and creative about it. It’s more fun. Really.
